X-Country Ski Trip near la Plata Peak
Above a frozen creek on a crisp, cold January morning. Perfect conditions and breathtaking views!
Mt. Belford Summit
Looking West from the summit of Mt. Belford at Missouri Mountain in the distance. Trail leads back to a false peak that you cross on the ridge. The clouds are back and moving fast with high winds. Time to head back to camp before climbing Missouri Mountain in the morning.
Narrows on Longs Peak
Narrow passage just below the summit of Longs Peak. Extreme exposure down to the right tests the nerve of the climber. Dramatic and beautiful!
August afternoon from summit of Mt. Shavano
Storm coming in on a two day, one night climb of Mt. Shavano. Very rocky trail and lots of rain in the night.
Day's end on la Plata Peak
View from camp at the end of day two of three in the la Plata Gulch. Pikas played on the rocks, gathering roots to store for Winter. The temperature dropped quickly as the sun went down and a few stars began to appear.
Longs Peak ridge from the Keyhole.
Spent a stormy night in the boulder field and made the summit the next day. Rugged, dramatic climb with lots of exposure.
Last Light in Yankee Boy Basin, Uncompahgre Peak
Sunset shot of Uncompahgre Peak from Yankee Boy Basin on a climb of Mt. Sneffels. Dramatic evening!
View of Crestone Needle from a climb of Horn Peak.
While climbing the very steep Horn Peak, I got this view through a big rainstorm coming my way. A long climb with several disheartening false summits. Three days and two nights on the mountain.
Evening waterfall in Yankee Boy basin. Mt. Sneffels.
Sunset from camp before climbing the peak the next morning. Such a lush basin, filled with wildflowers and streams.
North Apostle from the summit of Mt. Huron
A beautiful sunny, but windy summit. Backpacked to treeline and camped in a meadow near a snow-melt stream. Climbed the summit the second day and spent another night at the same camp with outrageous views.
Sunrise on Longs Peak from the boulder field.
Spent a rainy night in the boulder field and made the summit the next morning. Thunder and lightning. Dramatic!
From Summit of Mt. Massive
Looking West toward the Maroon Bells and Capitol Peak from the summit of Mt. Massive. Came up the steep Southwest slope. Started out as a beautiful sunny day and ended with thick cloud cover. Wore me out, but worth it!
Sunset glowing pinnacle near Mt. Sneffels.
Gentle last light from camp on a wonderful climb of Mt. Sneffels. More stars than you can imagine and a nearly full moon. Two days and one night.
Columbine blooming on a climb of la Plata Peak
Spent the night at treeline by a creek and started climbing early. Dramatic views and tough, rocky climbing toward the top. A real challenge.
Last light from camp on Mt. Huron.
Looking Northwest from a ridge above camp at sunset. Marsh with small ponds below. On a climb of Mt. Huron in August. Quiet.
Storm coming in on Longs Peak climb.
Heavy rain and wind in this storm. You can see the keyhole on the far right. Spent a wet night in the boulder field and made the top the next day.
Mt. Belford Camp
Late day view from camp in Missouri Gulch at the end of a cloudy, misty day in August. Slept with the sound of rushing water fifty yards away. Other than that, the sundown was totally quiet as the cloud cover melted away. Should be a sunny morning for summiting Mt. Belford and Oxford. Can’t even describe the number of stars in the night sky!
Broken Hand Peak on a climb of Humboldt Peak.
Late afternoon before setting up camp below Humboldt Peak. Beautiful three days and two nights on the mountain.
Sunrise shadows on descent from Humboldt Peak.
Beautiful weather on this trip. Dramatic views after a long hike in and out. Three days and two nights on the mountain.
New friends on a climb of Mt. Massive.
Several Mountain Goats on a Southeast ridge of Mt. Massive. They were wary, but not afraid and just ignored me. Three days and two nights.

20 page photo book of a climb of Mt. Harvard.
Mt. Harvard has a long approach, but is worth every steep step. Spent three days and two nights on this climb. I like to take my time and get the full experience of being in the middle of nowhere. If you've climbed this one, the photos will bring back fond memories.
